Andes Amazon Atlantic Connectivity
Our view of the Amazon as a system, has led us to advocate in the last years for the Andes Amazon Atlantic Connectivity Initiative, which aims to secure ecosystem and cultural connectivity of the amazon rainforest with the Andean mountains and the Atlantic ocean. Connectivity between the three is a fundamental condition that guarantees that the Amazon will provide us with the ecosystem services that make our life on earth possible. Respecting the sovereignty of the amazon countries and the autonomy and self-determination of indigenous territories that form part of the area, the initiative invites each group of stakeholders to define their own ecosystem connectivity strategy. Implementation of the Andes Amazon Atlantic Connectivity Initiative offers a framework for the creation of alliances, both for governments, civil society and indigenous peoples, forging a vision that integrates conservation to sustainable use of the environment as a prime means to achieve more peaceful, fair and inclusive societies.
